Assignment Four, Thomas Jefferson up to the War of 1812
Deadline, April 5 or TBA, 80 Points
Essential Questions
How did Thomas Jefferson shape the average citizen's view of America?
How did Jefferson respond to key questions that arose in the United States during the years he was in office?
DescriptionÂ
Thomas Jefferson shaped America in ways no other President ever has. His decision to expand America through the Louisiana Purchase, his calls for the geographic limitation of slavery, his engagement in America's first war all served to build a nation far beyond what he had seen in the years prior to the Revolution.
After Jefferson left office, James Madison became President. Probably the greatest memory of the Madison years was the War of 1812. Some historians have argued that Jefferson's decisions and influence set America on path down which war with Britain was almost inevitable. Whether this is the case or not, certainly tensions between America and Britain were steadily growing through the end of Jefferson's term and throughout the first term of James Madison.
